Today was a bright, sunny day
So I went to the beach to kick up some splashes again.
And get ideas.
What the heck am I doing wrong?
I looked at the sunlight through the ocean.
I decided to break the colour scheme down to four tones. Darkest shadow, next to the ripple of yellow light; brown sort of dingy sand; blue sheen highlight on the water............but then, to contrast my four tones of the water, bright white splashes.
I have a loose, spontaneous style I think. In that respect, oil painting isn't necessarily the best medium for me, because everything is slow. Slow layering, slow drying. One move at a time, like a chess game.
Sunlight balances shadows and it all makes sense.
